Hi Everybody!
Happy new windy year!! This is the first windmail of 2009 and we hope to fill your life with what´s going on in Jericoacoara and in the windsurf world before you can come and see by your own eyes!
And if you missed Jeri in 2008, you still can come and have fun! January is wavy, windy and not crowded so.... no excuses to stay home in the rain??

In December, in the middle of the wind season, our calm and tranquil Icaraizinho was invaded by famous windsurfers, journalists and enthusiastic crowd for 4 hectic days.
If you were there, you could see a show of tricks and a high level of sailing, but could still enjoy the slow paced life of the fishermen, their gastronomy and quiet streets in town.
With perfect conditions, the wind blew an average of 30 knots, and during the 4 days of competition the sailors gave an amazing show of tricks and style.

The event organizers believed that Icaraizinho was a perfect spot to host a freestyle competition, due to the flat water, and we are more then glad that it turned out as good as it did.
When the cerimony and the party was over, the journalists and riders left... Icaraizinho and its habitants went back to the slow life pace, but with some new words in the vocabulary... flaka... jibe...

 We found in the middle of a capoeira show, a 21 years old boy who was a revelation in the last PWA since, besides a great windsurfer, he´s also a fantastic capoeira performer.
Nobody knows how to combine the two arts until now...
We interviewed Chico Bento - BRA 83, trying to discover what he is preparing for 2009:
CV: how long have you been windsurfing?
BRA 83: I sail since I was 13 years old, which means 8 years now.
 CV: How was your development since then until today?
BRA 83: In the beginning it was very difficult, and therefore I had no equipment or anyone who could teach me. Gradually, some friends started to help by giving equipment, few tips ... but it was in 2001 that I started to evolve because of the capoeira that gave me agility.
CV: Who are your sponsors?
BRA 83: The people who believe in my work are Northsail, Fanatic, Pousada Wind Jeri and Ion.
CV: which PWA level tricks do you perform?
BRA 83: burner, thode, air chacho, kono, cullo and Shaka.
CV: now, tell us what you´re preparing for the next season of the PWA!
BRA 83: after my experience in PWA 2008 and due to the attention that I created by being a capoeirista, I thought to create my own trick, using the capoeira in my favor and I am sure that will surprise everyone! The maneuver is still secret, but is already in the oven!
